About Us

Discovering my love of woodworking came quite naturally.  I started working with my father as a carpenter in 2006 and quickly learned that my passion for working with my hands was what God had in store for me.  Woodworking was an evolution over time and has lead to so many incredible opportunities.  In 2020, blind faith lead me to start Sugar Hollow Woodcrafters, LLC and now Sugar Hollow Custom Calls as an extension of the business.

My love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing has always been at the core of my being.  A true Woodsman is not about the harvest, but about the art of the hunt.  The outdoor world that surrounds us is something in of itself.  It's up to us to go find it!  I don't think I will ever earn the title of being a true Woodsman, but I enjoy studying the haptics of our animals alike.

Vocalizations of deer and turkeys are exceptionally interesting to me.  Years ago, I crafted a turkey call and begun to study the sounds of the Eastern Wild turkey here in Virginia.  While filming countless hours of birds in their natural habitat, I was able to hone in on the correct tones and pitches.

After buying dozens of deer calls over the years, I still was not able to find the perfect call.  I have never felt like the old style accordion calls sounded anything like a deer...not to mention they were long and cumbersome!  They lacked the nasilly, sharp "click" in a grunt that you hear when a buck is in close proximity.  After several years of making dozens of prototypes, I feel like I have created the best, most realistic deer call.

I have a handful of decades-old game calls, handed down through the generations.  There's something special about a handmade game call.  My hope is that you enjoy your call as much as I did making it.  And, that one day, you will pass it down to the next generation to keep the love of the outdoors alive!
